1. Service description
These Terms apply to Variant Interactive Map at variantinteractivemap.org, including current and future pages and features unless a feature states otherwise. The service includes interactive maps and markers, Shared Maps, guides and reference data, resource calculators, notes and checklists, Icarus build planning tools, the Icarus Prospect Save Analyzer, Icarus companion and progression tools, Valheim world records, Portal Network, Food Optimizer, Companion Toolkit, galleries, backup/restore, optional Google Auto Sync, and other planning or reference tools.
2. Unofficial status and game intellectual property
Variant Interactive Map is an unofficial fan/community project. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, approved by, or endorsed by RocketWerkz, Iron Gate, Coffee Stain Publishing, or the developers or publishers of Icarus or Valheim. Icarus, Valheim, their names, trademarks, game artwork, game data, and other game-related intellectual property remain the property of their respective owners.
Game names and related terms are used only to identify the games, maps, items, creatures, recipes, saves, or features that Variant supports. Nothing on Variant transfers ownership of third-party intellectual property or grants rights beyond those available under applicable law or an applicable license.
The Valheim Wiki is a community resource and some wiki material may be available under its stated community license. Where Variant summarizes or references outside material, the original source and its license or terms continue to apply. Variant does not claim ownership of third-party material simply because it is referenced by the service.
3. Independent development and third-party community tools
Variant may link to or mention official resources, wikis, map sites, community tools, or other third-party projects for reference, comparison, or convenience. A link or mention does not create a partnership, endorsement, sponsorship, or shared ownership relationship.
Variant's own code, interface, written help, original artwork, data organization, and tool behavior are independently developed or used under an applicable license. Variant does not intentionally copy another community site's private code, private services, branding, protected artwork, or restricted content. Similar gameplay utilities can provide similar functions without being the same product or implementation.
If third-party open-source or licensed material is used, its applicable license and attribution requirements should be followed. A third-party link does not authorize scraping, bypassing access controls, copying a private API, or redistributing content contrary to that site's terms.
4. Save files and local analysis tools
Tools such as the Icarus Prospect Analyzer are intended for files you own or are authorized to use. The analyzer reads a user-selected prospect JSON in the browser to identify supported world information, including deep mining deposits and their map positions. The analyzer is read-only with respect to the original save: it does not edit, replace, move, or delete the selected Icarus JSON. Variant can save a reduced analyzer map locally and, when you have already approved a Variant PC folder, can keep copies under an Icarus / Prospect Analyzer subfolder.
Game save formats can change without notice. A parser can miss records, misread changed formats, or stop working after a game update. Variant does not guarantee that a save analysis is complete or correct. Keep your own backup before using any game-save-related tool, especially before making changes to the original file with the game or another utility.
Variant does not provide other players' private saves and does not authorize access to files, accounts, servers, or data you do not have permission to use. Local analysis tools are provided for personal interoperability, planning, and gameplay reference; they do not grant permission to violate a game's terms, another person's rights, or applicable law. If you create a Prospect Analyzer share code, only the reduced mapped prospect data described in the Privacy Policy is uploaded to Variant's share-code storage. You are responsible for sharing only prospect data you are allowed to distribute.
5. User data, images, shared content and backups
Personal Variant progress is stored on your device first. Features that let you add notes, labels, plans, marker text, screenshots, companion information, world records, or other content are intended for material you are authorized to use. You are responsible for what you add and must not use the service to store or share unlawful material or material that infringes another person's rights.
User-added screenshots, note images, and saved Prospect Analyzer files can be stored in browser/app file storage or, when you explicitly choose and authorize a location on a supported desktop browser, as ordinary files under one shared Variant Interactive Map folder. Variant can create separate Icarus, Valheim, Gallery, Notes, Companions, and Prospect Analyzer subfolders within that approved location. Variant does not receive general access to your computer or unrelated folders.
Image files and saved Prospect Analyzer files are not included in Variant's normal JSON Backup/Restore file and are not uploaded by Google Auto Sync. Prospect Analyzer share codes use a separate site-backed transfer feature for the reduced analyzer payload only. Backup/Restore, local file storage, share codes, and Google Auto Sync are convenience features. Uninterrupted synchronization, storage, recovery, or data availability is not guaranteed.
Shared Maps intentionally send shared marker data, map metadata, your chosen display name, memberships, and related collaboration information to Variant's hosting backend so invited collaborators can use the same workspace. Icarus and Valheim Shared Maps remain separate. Share invite codes only with people you intend to grant access. Shared markers can remain after a collaborator leaves or is removed unless the map owner deletes them.
Feedback submitted through Variant can be stored by the hosting provider and delivered through configured form notifications. Do not submit passwords, access tokens, private save files, or other sensitive material. You keep ownership of your feedback, while allowing Variant to use it to investigate bugs, correct data, and improve the service.
6. Google Auto Sync and Shared Maps identity
Google Sync is optional. If enabled, you authorize the permissions shown on Google's consent screen for the purpose described in the Privacy Policy. Auto Sync operates while Variant is open. Where persistent authorization is available, Variant can securely retain a server-side Google refresh token so short-lived access tokens can be renewed without asking you to sign in every time. Reconnection can still be required when Google expires or revokes that authorization, or when you switch accounts. Google services are governed by Google's own terms and policies.
7. Accuracy, spoilers and game updates
Maps, save analysis, guides, calculations, recipes, progression recommendations, resource locations, and other game information can contain errors or become outdated after patches. Variant can flag source pages or data for review, but no flag or update process guarantees that every gameplay change has already been found. Verify important server or gameplay information when needed.
Some tools can reveal map locations, resource information, mission details, progression information, or other gameplay spoilers. Using those tools is your choice.
Valheim Deep North/1.0 information is treated as upcoming until released and reviewed. Preview or future-content information can change before release.
8. Optional support link
Variant may provide an optional Buy Me a Coffee link to support Variant Interactive Map and related community projects. Contributions are voluntary, are processed by Buy Me a Coffee rather than Variant, and do not purchase access to the site or guarantee availability, perks, features, or support.
9. Acceptable use
You may use the site for normal personal and community gameplay purposes. Do not interfere with site operation, attack or overload the service, bypass access controls, misuse invite codes, abuse third-party APIs, use Variant to obtain data you are not authorized to access, or use the service in a way that violates applicable law or another person's rights.
10. Availability and third-party services
Variant can be changed, interrupted, or discontinued without a guarantee of notice. Hosting providers, Google APIs, external wikis, game services, and other third-party services can also change, fail, restrict access, or update their policies without Variant's control.
11. Disclaimer and limitation of responsibility
The service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the extent permitted by applicable law, Variant makes no warranty that a tool, map, calculation, save analysis, sync, backup, or third-party reference will always be available, complete, compatible, or error-free.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the developer is not responsible for losses caused by reliance on Variant data, lost local progress, gallery or Prospect Analyzer files, changed or damaged game saves, revoked folder permissions, shared-map activity, share-code availability, third-party outages, game updates, or use of the service. These Terms do not limit any right or remedy that applicable law does not allow to be waived or limited.
12. Variant content and permitted use
Unless a file or component states a different license, Variant's original site code, branding, written content, interface artwork, and other original project material may not be republished as another service or represented as someone else's work without permission. This does not claim ownership of Icarus, Valheim, third-party trademarks, community-licensed material, or facts and gameplay concepts that belong to others or are not protected by copyright.
13. Rights concerns and contact
If you own rights to material that appears on Variant and believe it is being used incorrectly, send the page or feature involved, a description of the material, and enough information to understand the concern to frenziafun22@gmail.com. Good-faith rights concerns can be reviewed and disputed material can be corrected, credited, replaced, or removed when appropriate.
14. Changes to these Terms
These Terms can be updated as Variant changes. The date at the top identifies the current version. Continuing to use the service after an update means the current Terms apply to that use.
